Wig Ordering > Why > How

"Ok, so we know why you've switched to this system, so how does it work?"

Basically, it's just like a Dutch Auction on eBay, where the multiple items for sale are "units of styling time". In addition to the materials cost, every wig has a specific amount of "units" required to create it. You can see how many units are required for each wig in their listing in the Frequently Requested Characters database...

So you will be bidding for how much you are willing to pay per unit to have your wig made. (The minimum price I am requesting is $10 per unit.)

Here's how it works:
The first week of every month will be the "grace period" for the auction. The auction itself will be for a delivery period five months in the future. (For instance, the auction running in August 2004 will be for January 2005 deliveries.) This first week is the time where you should request quotes for a wig you'd like me to make if the wig is not already listed in the Frequently Requested Characters database. (NOTE: You can request quotes at anytime, but I can not guarantee you will get them in time for the current auction.) You will not be able to bid at this time, but you will be able to make your deposit to get your "Wig Reservation Code" for the auction.

"Whoa, make a deposit? I have to pay to bid?!"
Don't panic, there's a very good reason for this. First off, the deposit is fully refundable if your wig does not make it onto the roster for the month. If your wig does make it onto the roster, the reservation deposit will be applied to your wig payment.

The reason I am requiring that you pay for a Wig Reservation Code to bid is that I'm trying to discourage "grief bidders"; people who have no intention of actually ordering, but just want to mess around with the auction. (I'm sure you're all aware that there's plenty of "anti-cosplay" folks out there who would love to do something like that.) For that same reason, each Wig Reservation Code will only allow you to bid on one wig. This is to prevent someone from getting one code, then filling up the roster with a bunch of wigs they're not going to order just to discourage other bidders. If you would like to bid on multiple wigs, you will need to get a Wig Reservation Code for each. Also, the code will only work for the current auction, and cannot be reused after the auction ends.

The deposit amount is only $10 and can be made before or during the auction through Paypal, or by check or money order before the auction. (Mail-in deposits postmarked after the start of the auction will be returned.)
