Youji, who works as a freelance agent, is called upon by "Butch" to aid her in her next job. Youji is to be her "man on the inside", her eyes and ears as she hacks in. He is, in a sense, her safety to make sure everything runs smoothly.

It's a simple plan: get in, establish a connection, make the transaction, and get out with minimal to zero casualities. But, things don't always go according to plan...

Youji Kawamori
Youji is the main character of the story. He's a laid-back, smart-ass slacker, who, when he's not sleeping, is often found playing pool.

However, his professional life is a completely different matter. Youji is an agent for hire who handles everything from espionage to assassinations (although he doesn't prefer the latter) with effortless precision and exacting standards. He's skilled in Jeet Kune Do, Aikido, and Sambo, and is additionally quite knowledgable in the small arms department. (His weapon of choice is a silenced Beretta M92F.) He is also fluent in four languages: English, German, Italian, and his native tongue of Japanese.

Mima "Butch" Kyoshiro
Mima is a charismatic, attractive,kind-hearted and loveable young woman. But due to her occupation, she is also a source of much fear and hatred.

She is a hacker by trade, working under the alias "Butch", and is wanted by several international law agencies for crimes ranging from breaking government encryptions, to misappropriating funds.

"Murllow"
"Murllow" is Youji's arch-nemesis and has been for some time. He had dissappeared a few years ago, after his last run-in with Youji, but recently resurfaced again. No one alive knows the true story of his mysterious past, or his connection to Youji.

His occupation as an assassin suits him well, as he is a cold-hearted and ruthless killer. His tools of choice are two katanas, which he wields with deadly precision. Combined with his knowledge of Kendo and Iaido, he is a formiddable foe indeed.
