For Otakon 2001, the whole gang went as the characters from Oasis Destiny. I made most of the costumes myself, except for Syd's which, except for the jacket and arm, was mostly store-bought.
The editor I had originally been working with had led me to believe the book would make it to the shelves a lot sooner than it really would be, so it didn't seem quite that silly to be promoting it in 2001.
